"Jane ordered us a bottle of Mudbrick's own superb Marlborough-grown 2005 Sauvignon Blanc which delivered on the wine list promises of cut-grass and marzipan flavours. We nibbled on the vineyard's home-marinated olives - green and black and beautifully big and flavoursome. "

"For entree's we ordered cornmeal-crusted calamari (declared "perfect" by Natalie), pan-roasted quail with honey glazed tamarillo's and a vanilla demi-glaze (Jane loved the caramel flavour) and paua sashimi for me (intriguing - raw paua presented in thin slices - I thought they had overdone the ponzu, but when I followed Natalie's advice to eat each bite with a little of the accompanying grapefruit salad, it all fell into place. Jane went very quiet for a few minutes after her seafood medley was served, which is always a sign of a delicious dish..."
