Fine dining restaurant Augustus Bistro acquired by owners of Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant
The Ponsonby restaurant located on St Mary’s Rd, is housed in the beautiful heritage building formerly Ponsonby Post Office, built in the 1920s. The Jones’ loved the look and feel of Augustus, the style suits the existing brand perfectly, but the restaurant will no longer offer fine dining French cuisine when it reopens at the middle of October.
“Boasting many of the original details, the space has been contemporised with luxurious indoor plants and indulgent fabrics that make any visit to the restaurant feel like a special occasion. On sunny days and starry nights, the restaurant spills out into a private courtyard adorned with exotic flora and a roaring fire, making it the best spot in town for drinks, lunch and dinner.”
“We are excited to revive Augustus and take it to a new level,” Jones said.
“I recently purchased a house in Ponsonby in February and feel a real connection with Ponsonby, and Nick has had an apartment in the area for many years now, so when such a special space and opportunity arose, we both felt the time was right to extend our operations city side.”
Augustus will be the Jones’ first foray into the Auckland market. The family has decided to keep the name of the restaurant but it will no longer serve the same style of food.
It will re-open to be a more casual and family-oriented offering mid October – we cant wait to see this new foray grow!
